Jorge Soto brings more than two decades of diverse experience in engineering, field operations, and project management to the City of Clewiston. Over the years, he has held multiple technical and leadership roles, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of infrastructure systems and organizational dynamics. His breadth of experience allows him to approach municipal operations with a results-driven mindset and a deep commitment to community-focused outcomes.
A native of Clewiston, Jorge, has a unique connection to the community he now serves. Having been born and raised in the city, he possesses an intrinsic understanding of its culture, challenges, and aspirations. This personal connection fuels his passion for ensuring the city's day-to-day functions is executed efficiently and always with the residents’ best interests in mind.
Jorge’s professional foundation is rooted in a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida. He began his career with Florida Power & Light Co. as a Protection and Controls Engineer in Fort Myers, where he gained critical technical experience in the design and reliability of power systems. As his career progressed, Jorge expanded his responsibilities into roles involving health and safety coordination, serving as the Health & Wellness Coordinator for FPL’s Transmission & Substation (T&S) West Area, and participating in the Local Joint Safety Committee.
His contributions extended to piloting initiatives aimed at improving field safety and operational efficiency. These included launching new toolkits for test engineers to reduce human error and improve productivity. Jorge has also held leadership positions as a Senior Protection and Controls Engineer and as a Power Generation Engineer, working at utility-scale solar power plants—adding renewable energy expertise to his portfolio.
Beyond his technical acumen, Jorge is known for his versatility in non-engineering roles. He has served as a safety inspector, quality control inspector, and contractor coordinator on numerous power plant projects and outages. His ability to lead across both technical and administrative functions speaks to his strong communication skills and organizational insight. He is also Six Sigma certified as a Yellow Belt in Process Management, demonstrating his commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Jorge's dedication to Clewiston extends into his personal life. He is a proud father to two children, Hannah and Gabriel, and is engaged to Liane Lafont Hernandez, with whom he shares a blended family that includes Renee, Diego, and Issabella. His family’s longstanding electrical contracting business, Central Electric Corporation, has served the Clewiston community since 1989. Today, Jorge continues to combine his professional expertise, mentoring spirit, and lifelong commitment to his hometown in his role with the City of Clewiston.
