Welcome to the Clewiston Fire Department. We are honored to provide dedicated service to our community, visitors and surrounding neighbors. Our department was established in 1931 by ordinance #16.

Our mission is to provide a safe, professional, and courteous team that strives to exceed the community’s expectations to prevent the loss of life and control, or reduce the loss of property by applying all of our professional knowledge and resources. 

Clewiston is located on Highway US 27 on the shore of Lake Okeechobee, Florida’s largest freshwater lake. Midway between West Palm Beach and Fort Myers. We serve the City of Clewiston as well as the unincorporated eastern side of Hendry County and Lake Okeechobee. Our coverage area is approximately 305 square miles with a population of approximately 15,000 residents.

We have one paid full time Fire Chief and 23 paid on-call firefighters ready to respond to fire calls, vehicle accidents. 

Our department protects a wide variety of land uses that range from urban city to rural farming and ranching. Our department also protects heavy industrial areas such as a sugarcane processing refinery and mill, railroad depot that operates 12 locomotives and about 800 rail cars, Airglades Airport with a 6,000 foot runway and Lake Okeechobee that covers over 700 square miles of water.
