Subject: Scheduled Water Main Flushing and Maintenance

Dear Resident/Business Owner,

The Clewiston Utility Water Department will begin its annual Hydrant Flushing Maintenance Program starting on March 16 and ending on or about May 31. This proactive maintenance is essential to maintaining high water quality and ensuring our fire hydrants are ready for emergency use.

What to Expect:

• Time of Work: Flushing will occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
• Water Discoloration: You may experience temporary "cloudy" or "rusty" water. Minerals and sediment stirred up in the pipes during flushing cause this. It is not harmful, but it can stain laundry.
• Pressure Drops: You may notice a brief drop in water pressure while crews are working on your street.

What You Should Do:

1. Avoid Laundry: Do not wash whites or light-colored clothes during flushing hours.
2. Run Cold Water: If you notice discoloration, run your cold-water tap (preferably a bathtub or outdoor spigot) for 5–10 minutes until it clears. Do not run the hot water, as this can pull sediment into your water heater.
3. Check Filters: If you have a whole-house filtration system, you may need to clean or replace your filters after the program is complete.
