Mali Soto Gardner has been a pillar of the Clewiston community for over four decades, dedicating her career to public service, economic development, and education advocacy. From banking to city leadership, her commitment to Clewiston—"America’s Sweetest Town"—has remained unwavering. Her leadership and service have played a key role in shaping policies that support local businesses, infrastructure improvements, and educational advancements.
Her professional accomplishments reflect a lifelong dedication to the betterment of her community. She built a distinguished career at First Bank of Clewiston (1979–2025), contributing to the financial stability and growth of the region. Serving on the Clewiston City Commission (1999–2025), she has been a strong advocate for policies that enhance the quality of life for residents. Mali is also an active member of the Clewiston Rotary Club (2000–2025) and a Paul Harris Fellow, recognized for her humanitarian contributions. Her commitment to economic development is evident in her role on the Hendry County EDC Education Task Force (2012–2025) and her selection for Governor Rick Scott’s Economic Development Transition Team (2010), where she helped shape Florida’s economic policies.
Mali’s dedication to lifelong learning is reflected in her educational journey. She graduated from Clewiston High School in 1978 before continuing her studies at Palm Beach Junior College (1984). She earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University in 1998 and later pursued advanced studies at the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin (2003). Additionally, she is a proud graduate of both the Glades Leadership program and Hendry County Leadership programs, further strengthening her ability to serve her community effectively.
Mali and her family arrived in Clewiston in the early 1960s, seeking refuge from Fidel Castro’s communist regime. Deeply grateful for the town that welcomed them, she has dedicated her life to giving back through service and advocacy. Her passion for Clewiston is rooted in preserving its rich agricultural and fishing heritage while fostering opportunities for future generations. Through her leadership and commitment, she continues to play an instrumental role in shaping the future of America’s Sweetest Town.
