Volunteer Firefighters

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Firefighter with the Clewiston Volunteer Fire Department, Incorporated. Our organization has proudly served the citizens of our area since 1931. Firefighting is a unique experience. Members of our Department continue to carry on in this country's tradition of volunteer service. Membership provides not only the experiences of firefighting and assisting your community, but will also give you the unique experience in the bond of comradeship with your fellow firefighters.

All Volunteer Firefighters are required to be certified to at least the Firefighter I level by the State of Florida Division of Financial Services Division of the State Fire Marshal. If you have not already obtained your certification, it will be provided to you by the Department. The certification classes are held throughout the year, typically on Saturday and during evening hours. The Department conducts training every Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at our station located at 120 Commercio Street.

Also required minimally:

  • 206 hours of training to be certified as a NFPA Firefighter I

  • 48 hours of training for wild land firefighting in S-130 and S-190

  • 40-250 hours training as a Florida First Responder or EMT. Both have additional hours of training and specific requirements as required by the State of Florida.

The Department will provide you with a set of turnout gear and a basic uniform.

Please complete the application below to start your pre-qualification process and return it to our Department. If selected, your application will be valid for two (2) years and you will be notified when a position becomes available.

This pre-qualification does not guarantee employment with the City of Clewiston. If, and when, a position becomes available and you are selected by our organization to become part of the volunteer fire department, you will then be required to submit an application for employment with the city's personnel office and comply with employee recruitment and application procedures.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (863) 983-1499.

Again, thank you for your interest in our Department and we look forward to your becoming part of our team.
