Fire Prevention

The Fire Marshal enforces the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life/Safety Codes and Standards, the Florida Fire Prevention Code, the Florida Building Code, and the City of Clewiston's municipal code to ensure public safety. This includes conducting annual fire inspections for all commercial, educational, and residential properties with three or more units, as mandated by law.
In addition to routine inspections, the Fire Marshal is responsible for specialized inspections and permits, including those for special effects/pyrotechnics and flammable liquids. They oversee the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems, smoke evacuation systems, and fire alarm systems. The Fire Marshal also conducts investigations into the causes and origins of fires within the jurisdiction.
Furthermore, the Fire Marshal’s office reviews new construction plans to ensure compliance with national, state, and local codes. They inspect construction sites to confirm that the final building meets approved plans and test all fire protection and alarm systems to ensure they function according to code requirements.
