Chief of Police

Chief Tom Lewis was appointed Clewiston’s Police Chief in June 2021, bringing over two decades of law enforcement experience to the department. His career began in 1995 with the Department of Corrections, and in 1998, he transitioned to the Punta Gorda Police Department, where he served for more than 18 years, rising through the ranks to become Chief of Police. After leading the agency until 2017, he returned to the Department of Corrections before joining the Clewiston Police Department in 2020. With over 14 years of experience in law enforcement accreditation, Chief Lewis has assessed numerous agencies throughout Florida. Under his leadership, the Clewiston Police Department achieved its first-ever accredited status through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc., a distinction the agency proudly maintains today.

Chief Lewis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 243. His leadership training includes the Florida Police Chiefs Association’s (FPCA) Future Chief’s Seminar and Advanced Future Chief’s Seminar, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar. His dedication and expertise have earned him several prestigious awards, including the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs Outstanding Command Officer of the Year Award, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation Executive Director’s Award, and the City of Clewiston’s Director of the Year Award.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief Lewis is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife Amanda share a love for family and community. They have two adult children and cherish time spent with their three granddaughters.

With a steadfast commitment to public safety, professionalism, and community engagement, Chief Lewis continues to lead the Clewiston Police Department with integrity and dedication, ensuring the safety and well-being of Clewiston’s residents.
